The 52 foot Hitchhiker sailing catarmaran has recently undergone a repower, replacing 2 x 60hp petrol outboards with our innovative 50hp Dtorque diesel outboards.
The X-IT is a minimalist vessel, with no generator and no airconditioning onboard. The limited hull space and overall design meant that diesel inboard engines were not viable, and sailing long distances and in sometimes volatile waters meant that electric engines would not work.
One of the benefits of diesel outboards is the less volatile fuel, and high torque ratings compared to petrol engines.
